Inclusion

Definition : "The teacher facilitates inclusion of all students in the literacy lessons."

In the study, effective teachers were aware of individual differences and needs but they were also committed to inclusion, our third teaching practice in the differentiation dimension. These effective teachers provided challenging tasks, which differentiated between, but did not exclude children at different levels.

The effective teachers managed to include children in subtle ways while still providing for individual needs. Strategies included the ways in which teachers organised children and planned many open-ended tasks to ensure that all children could participate at their own level.
